Why I liked China Rich Girlfriend by Kevin Kwan
China Rich Girlfriend delivered in terms of intrigue and gossip even more than the first book. I am still OBSESSED with the Crazy Rich Asians Movie which I have seen so many times now. This book spans several months and had a narrative arc that was ever more wide-ranging than the first book in the series. There are many characters whose story is becoming more intertwined as the books go on. This ensemble cast allows for storylines to bend and link all across Asia. I loved every page of it.
Surprisingly, I was impressed with Nick’s mother in this book. While the family dynamics with Nick’s family is getting better, Rachel’s family is elusive and full of surprises. Nick’s mother actually stands up for her son and his now-wife in a way that did not seem possible in the first book. This character development was surprising. And with an ending that was as surprising as could be, I was hooked. I have already finished Rich People Problems and will be writing about it next week. If these reviews haven’t already inspired you, just know that it gets even better!
