Cress by Marissa Meyer makes Rapunzel look like an easy situation. While Rapunzel was stuck in a tower Crescent ‘Cress’ is stuck in a satellite orbiting above the earth. When she comes into contact with Cinder’s crew, she begins to help them. They plan to save her from her high tower but with the lunars looking for them it might be impossible.
“Do you think it was destiny that brought us together?”
He squinted and, after a thoughtful moment, shook his head. “No. I’m pretty sure it was Cinder.”’

Why I liked Cress by Marissa Meyer
Cress by Marissa Meyer, one of the longest of the books in the series, was the most in depth. I am still appreciating how Meyer is blending the story that she wanted to tell about Lunar people and rebellion with the fairy tales we all know and love. Cress, has to be saved from a satellite which was the perfect tall tower for this world. Cress’ story also has other things similar to the Rapunzel story. She marvels at the outside world once she meets it and falls in love with the prince who saves her. She is resilient and used to her own company, even if most of her coping mechanisms are a bit unconventional. I truly enjoyed the blending of fairy tale and future fantasy.
Cress is one of the most interesting female characters I’ve read in this genre. She is neither a damsel in distress, as she is one of the world leading hackers, nor is she a perfectly capable heroine who always knows what to do and is in complete control of the situation. Cress feels like a real person, one who has insane crushes, has a hard time with hard news, and was stuck for a very long time in one place. I am impressed and hopeful that Marissa Meyer is writing female characters like this. I connected with Cress in a way that I hadn’t with any of the other characters in this series. Truly, a feat.
P.S. So my boyfriend read Cinder… totally caught the twist as early as I did… I guess there’s a reason we’re together ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
P.P.S Iko finally getting a body back, especially in a such a funny/crazy way was maybe my favorite part of Iko’s story yet #TeamIko #Iko2020
